India’s defence and geostrategic ties with Russia are integral to its posture of strategic autonomy. A large section of India’s frontline defence equipment is of Russian origin – a legacy of more than half-a-century of defence collaboration. The op-ed analyses North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un’s recent visit to Russia. ‘The summit signals a growing warmth in the bilateral relationship...it would appear that both tactical and strategic calculations are at play....it could have an impact on both the European and North East Asian security theatres, highlighting the indivisibility of global security...overlapping interests and abundant caution are likely to be the North Star of bilateral ties’, writes Dr Roy.
