They discussed issues related to the development of Defence Industry in India. Mr Sharma expressed keenness to discuss with IDSA, the industry’s perspective on defence manufacturing in India, in the context of government policies.

The French Ambassador, HE, Mr François Richier, called on Director General IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta, on July 22, 2013, and discussed the visit of the French Minister of Defence Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian and his lecture at IDSA on France's new White Paper on Defence and National Security.

Mr Ramón Blecua, Charge d´Affairs of the Spanish Embassy, called on Director General IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta, on July 22, 2013. Mr Blecua expressed keen interest in developing academic ties between the Spanish academic institutions and the IDSA. They agreed to subsequently arrange for a meeting with the Spanish Ambassador.

Special Secretary (DPA &AD), MEA, Mr PS Raghavan delivered a talk on ‘Development Partnership Administration (DPA) and its Expanding Role in India’s Foreign Policy’, at IDSA on July 18, 2013.

Doctoral Candidate, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA and adjunct staff member, RAND Corporation, Mr Christopher Clary delivered a talk on ‘US-South Asia Relations during Second Obama Presidency: Existing Realities and Way Ahead’, at IDSA on July 4, 2013. Center Head, North America Centre, IDSA, Dr G Balachandran presided over the meeting.

A six-member delegation from the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), Dhaka, headed by Director General, Major General Sajjadul Haque participated in the Fourth IDSA-BIISS Bilateral Dialogue on ‘Future of India Bangladesh relations’ at IDSA on July 3, 2013. A Round table on ‘South Asia: Prospects for Regional Cooperation’ was organised at IDSA on June 27, 2013. The Panellists included, Director General IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta; Senior Fellow, CPR, Dr Rajiv Kumar; Senior Fellow, TERI, Dr Nitya Nanda; Dr Nisha Taneja, from ICRIER; Dr Ram Upendra Das from RIS and Professor Mahendra Lama of South Asian Studies, SIS, JNU.

Regional Legal Adviser for South Asia and Iran, International Committee of the Red Cross, New Delhi, Mr Charles Sabga, delivered a lecture on ‘International Humanitarian Law and Contemporary Armed Conflict’ at IDSA June 25, 2013.

A delegation of editors/senior journalists from Maldives visited IDSA on June 24, 2013 and interacted with the IDSA scholars on the Current Political Situation in Maldives and the overall political and security environment in South Asia.
