Book Review

Patryk Kugiel’s India’s Policy Towards the European Union in the Post-Cold War Era: Partners in the Liberal Order? is a systematic and well-structured analysis of the development of India’s engagement with the European Union (EU) from 1991 to mid-2025. The book is an important contribution in the existing literature on India–EU relations, which have been examined mainly from the EU perspective. What makes the book significant is its approach in analysing the relationship between India and the EU from an Indian perspective and in the context of the liberal international order. The book analyses the evolution of the Indian position on the EU for about thirty years, in order to understand how the importance and nature of this partnership have developed in the light of the changing international environment. One of the strengths of the book is its themes which revolve around the concepts of India in the liberal international order, economic cooperation, multilateralism, and global governance.
