Mr Thomas L Friedman, well-known columnist of The New York Times visited IDSA and interacted with the scholars on ‘Indian perspectives on US withdrawal from Afghanistan’ on January 30, 2013.

A group of 14 senior editors from Afghanistan visited IDSA for an interaction with the scholars on January 29, 2013.

IDSA organised an interaction with a delegation from Johns Hopkins University on January 15, 2013. IDSA was represented by Deputy Director General, Brig Rumel Dahiya, SM (Retd), Dr Kalyan Raman, Brig Mandip Singh and Dr Ashok Behuria, who discussed India’s international security with the visiting delegation.

A group of students from the Texas A&M University visited IDSA on January 7, 2013 and interacted with the scholars on various subjects including ‘China and the role of US in Asia-Pacific’.

President, Indian Association for the Study of Australia, Prof SK Sareen, met Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta on January 2, 2013 at his office and discussed ways to enhance interaction among Indian scholars on issues relevant to India-Australia relations.

Amb D P Srivastava, Indian Ambassador to Iran, met Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta on January 2, 2013 at his office and discussed the current status of India-Iran relations. Addressing the IDSA scholars, he also spoke about the significance of Iran for meeting India’s energy needs in the backdrop of emerging challenges.

Senior Fellow, Council for Social Development, Dr KS Subramanian, IPS (retd), met Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta on January 1, 2013 at his office and discussed issues pertaining to Naxalism.

The Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRS), Ms Mary Werntz, met Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta, on December 11, 2012 and discussed trends in international humanitarian law. She said ICRS is strictly neutral and works in India in accordance with their agreement with the Government of India.

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India, HE Mr Prasad Kariyawasam called on Director General IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta on November 29, 2012 and discussed an IDSA delegation’s forthcoming visit to Colombo for a track II event. IDSA scholars, Dr Ashok Behuria, Dr Smruti Pattanaik and Ms Gulbin Sultana were also present.

Commodore Jonathan Mead, Commander Surface Force, Royal Australian Navy, called on Deputy Director General, IDSA, Brig. Rumel Dahiya on 26 November 2012 and discussed regional security issues and Indo-Australia military relations.
