The UAE’s 2026 exit from OPEC reflects deepening strategic and economic divergence with Saudi Arabia, accelerated by regional conflict and Abu Dhabi’s push for greater production autonomy in a changing global energy market. For India, while short-term risks stem from Hormuz-related supply disruptions and price volatility, the move could strengthen long-term India–UAE energy cooperation through more flexible bilateral oil arrangements under frameworks such as CEPA and I2U2.
