Q. 2184 Capabilities of Afghan security forces

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to satate :-

(a) whether India is committed to building the capabilities of Afghan security forces;

(b) If so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken so far?

ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

(a) Yes.

(b) & (c) India and Afghanistan signed a Strategic Partnership agreement on October 4, 2011. Under the agreement, India agreed to assist Afghan National Security Forces, particularly for training and capacity building, based on requests received from and as may be mutually decided with the Government of Afghanistan.
