  • The relations between the two Koreas has recently turned sour after South Korean Nay patrol boats fired warning shots at six North Korean fishing vessels in southern waters in Yellow Sea, primarily to repel the latter violating the western maritime border. While terming the warning shots as an “adventurous military provocations”, the North Korean official news agency KCNA has stated that "The Southwestern Frontline Command stands ready for an operation order to turn the Yellow Sea into a trap for the enemy." According to KCNA report, Pyongyang has no other alternative but to retaliate by carrying out “powerful attacks” against the South. 1

In another development, North Korea is to send its delegates to the upcoming six-nation Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue involving China, the US, Japan, Russia and the two Koreas to be held on 27-28 September this year in Dalian, China. The parties to the annual security dialogue are basically engaged in discussing the methods to persuade North Korea to abandon its pursuit for nuclear weapons in exchange of political and economic aid. The dialogue was last held in late 2008. 2
