Russia, Tajikistan to further hydropower, gas cooperation

  • Presidents Dmitry Medvedev of Russia and Emomali Rakhmonov of Tajikistan agreed on August 29 to further cooperation in the fields of hydropower and gas. Both the sides attached priority to cooperation in the hydropower industry, specifically in the construction of the Sangtudinskaya hydroelectric plant as well as the Rogunsky hydroelectric plant. Russia also agreed to develop and explore natural gas deposits in Tajikistan. Joint ventures within the framework of interregional cooperation were singled out to be pursued. Strengthened bilateral cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres was also emphasized1.
