  • According to reports, President Dr Mohamed Waheed met the UN Resident Coordinator in Maldives Tony Lisle, WHO representative Dr Akjemal Magtymova, and Project Centre Manager of the United Nations Office for Project Services Alejandro Ruiz-Acevedo on July 31, 2013 to discuss the challenges faced in the Maldives’ health sector, and the measures that were necessary to solve those problems. 1

    Reports noted that Maldives central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has revealed that the country’s gross international reserves have fallen by 3 percent in June, 2013. The authority’s July 2013 Monthly Economic Review published yesterday shows that the gross international reserves had gone down by $11.2 million in June, compared to the previous month of May. However, the reserve registered an annual increase of 8 percent during June 2013, compared to June 2012. 2

    In other developments, according to the Consumer Price Index June 2013 report, the Consumer Price Index rose 2.07 percent from June 2012 to June 2013, compared to a rise of 6.60 percent through the year to May 2013. 3

    President Dr Mohamed Waheed met the visiting team of doctors and Imaams from Palestine. The teams were sent as technical assistance from the Palestinian government. 4

    Commonwealth Secretary General’s special envoy Sir Donald McKinnon has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. 5
