  • Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris has said in an interview with an Australian newspaper, “The Australian”, that the remnants of the defeated Tamil terrorist organization of Sri Lanka, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is still active in Australia and asked Australia to proscribe the terror outfit. 1

    Sri Lanka's President, Mahinda Rajapaksa congratulating the newly elected President of Iran Hassan Rowhani has said that Sri Lanka is looking forward to working with the new President to further strengthen relations between the two countries. 2

    According to reports, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have discussed enhancing the bilateral relations between the two countries in the ports and shipping sector. The discussions took place when Pakistan's Federal Minister for Ports & Shipping Senator Kamran Michael met Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody in his office recently. 4

    According to an official of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 1,600 Sri Lankan Tamils living in Tamil Nadu as refugees have returned to their country so far since January 2012. 5
