  • According to reports, the Syrian government has rejected a statement by UN peacekeeping chief, Herve Ladsous that Syria is facing a “full-scale civil war”. The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry stated that this did not reflect reality, and the ongoing war in Syria is against armed groups. The statement added that it expected the UN to deal even-handedly with developments in Syria. 1

Meanwhile, a Turkish newspaper report has assessed that the recent wave of attacks on civilians is a clear sign of the disintegration of the Syrian military. It also said that a massing of Syrian military forces near Aleppo, which borders southern Turkey, could lead to massive migration of civilians towards the Turkish border. The number of Syrian migrants in Turkey has touched 30,000. Turkey is of the view of establishing a buffer zone or humanitarian corridors for dealing with migrants, but this requires multilateral consensus. 2
