On June 1, four Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) cadres were killed in an encounter with the police at Sundermahto village in Hazaribag district in Jharkhand1. Earlier on May 30, another four CPI-Maoist cadres were shot dead in an encounter with the Andhra Pradesh Police near Gunupurai village in the Visakhapatnam district2.
Meanwhile, the CPI-Maoist caused derailment of a train and crippled train services on the Howrah-Delhi route in Jamui district by blasting both the up and down tracks early on June 2, during a bandh they called in five districts of East Bihar. Earlier, they blew up a sub-divisional office and looted food grains from the FCI granary in Munger district3.
