President congratulates Indian Prime Minister-designate Shri Narendra Modi; India funds renovation of the IGMH

    According to reports, Indian Prime Minister-designate Shri Narendra Modi has said that he would meet with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom soon after assuming office to discuss ways to develop relations between India and Maldives. Modi said this during a telephone conversation on May 18, initiated by President Yameen to extend his congratulations to Modi following his success in the recent general elections. Modi expressed his gratitude to President Yameen for the good wishes, and assured that he would, during his tenure as Prime Minister, give high priority to strengthening the existing relations between the two countries. 1

    Reports noted that India's National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC Limited) has initiated renovation of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The renovation will cost $10 million and it will be carried out in separate phases. 2
