  • The Union Government has extended the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as an unlawful association for another two years on May 14. It noted that the LTTE continued to be an ‘extremely potent, most lethal and well organised terrorist force in Sri Lanka and has strong connections in Tamil Nadu and certain other pockets of southern India.’ The act that the group continued to use Tamil Nadu as the base for carrying out smuggling of essential items like petrol and diesel besides drugs to Sri Lanka was also pointed out1.
