  • Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni co-chaired the first Bangladesh-India Joint Commission meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister SM Krishna on May 7, 2012. The Joint Commission was formed under the Framework Agreement on Cooperation for Development signed during Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka on September 6-7, 2011. 1

    Reports noted that under India's $1 billion credit agreement inked two years ago, Bangladesh bought fifty double-decker buses from India. 2

    In other developments, according to reports, Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman visited Kolkata on May 7 to receive the prestigious Indira Gandhi Gold Plaque 2011. Mr. Atiur has been awarded the Gold Plaque by the Asiatic Society in Kolkata in recognition of his significant contribution to international co-operation towards human progress. 3
