  • Out of concern for the widening gap in technological capability vis-à-vis the US, the ASD (AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association) President Allan Cook urged European nations to increase investment, particularly in aero defence R&D. Pointing out that the US spends $70-75 billion per year on R&D alone, Cook admitted that Europe may not get such funding but could at least be innovative in terms of technology. He particularly stressed the importance of space, air, naval and land communications1.
