Maldives officially hands over aid amount to Japan on March 11, 2011 aimed at helping the victims of the massive earthquake and consequent Tsunami;

  • President Mohamed Nasheed officially handed over the proceeds, which include more than Rf 8.5 million and fish cans from “Japanai Eku Dhivehin” – Maldivians with Japan – aid events to Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahashi on April 5. This aid is intended at helping the victims of the massive earthquake and consequent tsunami that hit Japan on March 11.1

    On the other hand, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JAICA) has completed eight harbours and three sewerage systems, which were devastated by the 2004 Asian tsunami, and officially handed over to the Maldivian government at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge (convention centre) on April 6.2
