  • The President of the Foreign and Defense Policy Council (FDPC) of Russia Sergey Karaganov and Nikolay Bordyuzha, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) were in China on April 2 at the invitation of the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS). They met with Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA among others.     The ‘Chaohu’ guided-missile frigate of the 5th Chinese naval escort taskforce strengthened its training procedures to better carry out its escort tasks in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast.1 Reports noted that the Nanjing Military Area Command carried out a drill containing elements like unexpected-incident rescue, disaster prevention, emergency handling and risk evasion. Over 60 kinds of unexpected situations that could be encountered in accomplishing diversified military tasks were visualized in a bid to enhance troop capability in accomplishing diversified military tasks.2

    The 7th China International Defense Electronics Exhibition (CIDEX) will be held from May 12-14, 2010. Over 300 manufacturers from China, US, Switzerland, Germany, France, Singapore, Japan, Norway, Finland, the UK and Austria, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan would attend it.3
