EAM Pranab Mukherjee, during his recent visit to the United States asserted that India was interested in implementing the landmark nuclear agreement reached with the United States. He however noted that there were some political problems and that India was engaged in the process of resolving them. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice assured Mr. Mukherjee that Washington would continue to work on the deal. The EAM also met President George Bush.

Speaking on the India-specific safeguard negotiations with the IAEA, Mr. Mukherjee noted that while the discussions were over, an agreement was yet to be initialed and approved by the board of governors of the IAEA1.
