  • Ambassador Christopher Hill has said that the US would like the establishment of diplomatic relations with Pyongyang. However, he reiterated that the North Koreans had been informed that this would not happen until it gives up its nuclear weapons.
In other reports, China is in discussions with the United States and North Korea on how to bridge differences and restart talks on ending the North Korean nuclear programme1.

Talks on disarming North Korea have been on hold since Pyongyang missed an end-2007 deadline to provide a complete declaration of its nuclear arms programme as agreed under a multilateral deal2. Chinese Vice Premier Wu Dawei told reporters that they had proposed several means to restart the process both to US and to North Korea.
