  • Unidentified militants carried out a grenade attack against the heavily-guarded Manipur Assembly complex in Imphal on March 8, 2008. No one was, however, wounded in the attack. The incident prompted police and intelligence officials to tighten security around the Assembly complex. The grenade was hurled from near the first gate, which is reserved for the Governor, the Speaker and the Chief Minister1.

In another development, the Asom Government has admitted that the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), Harkat-ul-Jehad (HuJ) and Jamat-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) are active in Asom and the North-East. The Asom Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain told the State Assembly on March 6, that the State Government has intensified vigil along the international border with Bangladesh by setting up an intelligence agency led by the Border Security Force2.
