Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) signs a contract for the supply of three Hull Mounted Sonars with Myanmar; Incidents of firing on India-Pakistan border intensified over the years

    According to reports, Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on February 19 informed the house that Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a contract for the supply of three Hull Mounted Sonars (HMS-X) with the government of Myanmar on the 16th January, 2013. The contract value of these three Sonars is US$29.24 Million. 1
    In another development, according to reports, Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in a written reply in Rajya Sabha gave the details of Ceasefire Violations (CFVs) / Trans-border firing along Line of Control / International Border (LoC / IB) in J&K. The numbers are for the year range 2011-2014. There has been a steady increase in such violations with the year 2013 witnessing unprecedented 347 incidents of CFVs / Trans-border firing. Significantly, no exchange of fire has taken place on Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China during these years. Similarly, the number of army & BSF Personnel martyred along India-Pakistan border has seen steady increase with the year 2013 being the worst in this regard. 2
