According to reports, China is building a strategic presence in Israel through a growing portfolio of holdings in national infrastructure, high-tech startups and core industries. Chinese public institutions and private investors are acquiring control of key industries and gaining access to Israeli technology, innovation and know-how. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has assigned top priority to expanding links with China given China’s vast market and diplomatic clout with its UN Security Council seat. Israel’s National Cyber Bureau plans to include China in a Cyber Emergency Response Team to be set up next year. In the field of high technology, China comes a close second to the US in the number of projects co-managed by Israel’s Chief Scientist Office. It is believed that China is rapidly replacing Europe as the second leading source of capital fueling Israel’s high-tech sector. 1
In another development, according to reports, NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen has urged Russia to stop its military activity and threats against Ukraine. The NATO chief has said that Russia’s action threatens peace and security in Europe. “Russia must stop its military activity and its threats,” the NATO chief said. On March 1, Russian lawmakers approved Russian President Vladimir Putin’s request to move troops to Ukraine. Meanwhile, U.S President Obama has also expressed his concerns about reports of Russian military movement inside Ukraine. 2
