  • The visiting Deputy Chief of General Staff of the PLA Ma Xiaotian met with the Chief of British Defence Staff Sir Jock Stirrup and pledged to take steps to further strengthen bilateral ties.1

    The Vice chairman of the Central Military Commission Guo Boxiong, speaking on the occasion of Spring Festival at an aviation division urged that “all troop units of the PLA should expand and deepen the readiness of military struggle, actively carry forward the transformation of military training, constantly improve the capability of accomplishing diversified military tasks with the capability of winning local war under information-based conditions at the core, try to create a new situation in the army building from the new starting point and resolutely fulfill various tasks entrusted by the CPC and the people.”2

    A brigade of the Second Artillery Force (SAF) conducted a guided-missile attack-and-defense exercise under information-based conditions in a mountainous region.3 Chinese and Russian frontier defense troops also conducted a joint exercise along the Argun River east of Inner Mongolia from January 25-26.4

    A volume on Military Space Technology was published by the Publishing House of the Encyclopedia of China. The volume has been compiled over a period of 5 years by more than 150 experts belonging to military and civilian units dealing with space issues. The General Armaments Department of the PLA facilitated the publication.5
