Major Joint Military drill to take place between US and Israel; Iraq calls on United States to speed up arms deliveries

    According to reports, U.S. troops and equipment have begun arriving in Israel ahead of a major exercise between the two countries. The exercise is slated to be the largest in the history of the longstanding military relationship between the U.S. and Israel. The officials claim that the exercise named Austere Challenge 2012” (AC12) will be defensive and unrelated to the Iran nuclear crisis, other Middle East developments or elections in the United States and Israel. 1
    In another development, according to reports, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on October 18 urged USA to speed up its delivery of weapons for Iraq’s forces. The PM acquainted the visiting U.S. Deputy Defence Secretary Ashton Carter about the country’s desire to develop an arms strength which would be able to protect the sovereignty of Iraq. 2
