According to reports, the UN Security Council, on October 5, condemned the shelling of the southeastern Turkish town of Akcakale during the week. The shelling by Syrian armed forces led to the deaths of five civilians and a number of injured. UNSC members have pointed out that the incident highlights the grave consequences that the Syrian conflict is having on the security of its neighbours, and on regional peace. 1 Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan responded to the incident saying that Turkey had no intention for a war. 2 Meanwhile, Russia has stated that it hoped the tense situation at the Turkish-Syrian border would not warrant intervention in Syria by Turkish troops. 3
