The US Marine Corps finally completed the deployment of the first squadron of the 12 MV-22 Osprey aircraft at the US Marine base in Futenma at the Okinawa Prefecture on October 6, 2012, despite strong protests by the Okinawa residents. It is worth noting that in the last few months, the possible deployment of the controversial tilt-rotor transport aircraft evoked strong public outcry as the people in Okinawa argued that Osprey would jeopardize their security. Osprey has recently experienced a spate of accidents overseas, including a crash in Morocco in April and a crash in Florida in June this year. 1
