  • Unprecedented Environmental Impacts of Chemical and Biological Warfare: A Critical Appraisal

    Despite the existence of several mechanisms and frameworks that regulate the use and production of CBWs, they continue to exist, and pose risk to environmental and human health. Their use in wars and conflicts in the past have inflicted severe damages on ecosystems, as evidenced by the cases of different wars. Yet these issues are seldom brought up in the narratives on chemical and biological warfare, except from a moral point of view.

    Time to Bolster Global Biological and Chemical Defense Capabilities

    Recent biological and chemical trends highlights a growing concern regarding an evident indifference with respect to the support of the long standing institution CWC and BWC. This can be attributed to three causes the lowering of thresholds for developing BW and using CW, the demonstrated international lack of will to support these key international institutions, and a questionable ability to deal with the types of mass casualty scenarios as a result of biological or chemical attack.

    India and Chemical Security - Can Another Bhopal be Avoided?

    The Indian Chemical Industry manufacturing a large number of Toxic Industrial Chemicals and materials, not well regulated, has shortcomings relating to the security of the plants and the chemicals. The security threat could be at the plant, at the storage and during transportation of chemicals by various modes. Lack of adequate measures, to ensure security, could have disastrous consequences resulting in a great loss to life and property.
