  • According to figures released by the Saudi government, Saudi border guards have thwarted more than 159,000 attempts to enter the country illegally over the last six months. Around 3328 smugglers have been prevented from entering the kingdom with a range of contraband items, including small arms and other weapons. According to official statistics, more than 125,000 munitions and 7220 weapons, as well as 98 explosive devices, were seized between mid-November 2012 and May 2013. A large number of drugs, including cannabis, were also confiscated, along with other items that violate international regulations. Most of the intruders are believed to cross the border mainly in search of work and religious pilgrimages. 1
