Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta and Research Fellow, IDSA, Dr Uttam Sinha, who were on a week long visit to Norway and the Barents Region from June 11-16, 2012, visited the Russian town of Nikel as part of the Barents countries cooperation and interacted with local officials in the villages of Zapolyarny and Korzunovo on June 15, 2012.
Along with India's Ambassador to Norway, H.E. Mr. R. K. Tyagi, they visited the Barents Secretariat in Kirkenes, Norway on cross-boundary cooperation between Norway and Russia and the impact of the melting of the Arctic Ocean in the region, from June 13 to 15, 2012.
Both, Dr Gupta and Dr Sinha had earlier met the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway on June 12, 2012, where Dr Gupta made a presentation on 'Contemporary developments in Myanmar, implications for India and its relations with China and ASEAN'.
They also interacted with the researchers at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) as part of the institutional cooperation with IDSA, on June 11, 2012. The theme of the discussion was 'Geopolitical Implication of Climate Change'.
