IDSA also hosted a team of experts from the Japan Institute for International Affairs in 2005 for a bilateral round table. The two-day interaction spread over six sessions focused upon Southeast Asian Security Issues, Nuclear Issues and Prospects for Arms Control in the Asia Pacific, the Rise of China, Economic Relations between India and Japan, Indian and Japanese Perceptions on the Global and Regional Strategic Environment, and Multilateral Institutions including UN Reforms. Members of the JIIA team included Prof. Yumi Hiwatari of Sophia University, Maj. Gen. Noboru Yamaguchi, Director for Research at the Ground Research and Development Command of the JGSDF, Prof. Ryo Asano of Doshisha University, Mr. Takashi Shimada, President of the India Business Centre at Tokyo, Mr. Yukio Okamota, President of Okamota Associates, and Mr. Toshiya Hoshino, Visiting Research Fellow at JIIA.
