Ajey Lele replies: India has a range of satellites which are used for different purposes. The information received through these satellites are used by various agencies including the security establishment. For instance, weather satellites can provide timely information about topographic features and weather conditions, which are critical to military and para-military operations. Similarly, high resolution remote sensing satellites have the ability to provide different images of earth, which are used for purpose of detecting factual happenings on the ground. In short, remote sensing satellites and radar satellites provide necessary intelligence inputs, particularly satellites with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors which are capable of providing day and night all-terrain and all-weather inputs. Similarly, communication satellites offer secure communications.
