Q. 2968 GMR airport project at Maldives

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to satate :-

(a) whether GMR Airport project at Maldives has faced any legal and political problem from the decisions of Government in that country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the measures adapted by Government of India to resolve the above issues?

(a) to (c) The Concession Agreement signed by the previous Government of Maldives with the GMR (India) MAHB(Malaysia) consortium to build, operate, modernize and expand the Male International Airport project was terminated by the Government of Maldives on 27 November 2012.

The Government has called upon the Government of Maldives to ensure the fulfillment of all legal processes and requirements relating to the relevant contracts and agreement.
