SUMMARY:Africa Day Round Table - Africa’s Security Challenges
DESCRIPTION:As the world continues to suffer from an economic downturn\, the projected annual growth rate for Africa in 2017 is 3.7 per cent\, higher than the global average of 3 per cent (IMF\, World Economic Outlook). This is attributed to the domestic resilience of the African countries. Yet\, several parts of the continent have endured serious security challenges over the last year. In some regions of Africa\, political turmoil has provided space for Daesh and Al-Qaeda to find recruits. Peacekeeping in Africa witnessed difficult moments\, with the peacekeepers themselves coming under attack. In addition to its own internally displaced persons\, Africa also received refugees from conflict areas\, such as Yemen. What do these developments portend? \nIn order to discuss these complex issues\, on the occasion of Africa Day\, observed every year on May 25 to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now known as the African Union)\, the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA) is collaborating with the African Studies Association of India in organising a Round Table on the theme “Africa’s Security Challenges”. The event will be held on May 17\, 2017 at 3 pm at Seminar Hall I\, IDSA. \nShri Amar Sinha\, Secretary (ER)\, Ministry of External Affairs has agreed to deliver the Key Note address. \nEvent photographs \nPress Release
