Dr. Om Prakash Das is a Research Fellow at the Southeast Asia & Oceania Centre of the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) in New Delhi. He holds a Ph.D. from the Centre for Media Studies (CMS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, where his thesis was titled “A Critical Study of News Visualization in Modern Media: India, ca. 1950 – 2015.” He also completed his M.Phil. at CMS, JNU, New Delhi.

Dr. Das has authored research papers published in UGC-Care listed journals, international journals, and peer-reviewed journals, in both Hindi and English. He has successfully completed the ‘Defence Correspondent Course’ by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India (2015) and has produced several defence-related television documentaries and programs.

Previously, Dr. Das was a broadcast journalist, news anchor, and senior correspondent with India’s public broadcaster, Doordarshan News, Lok Sabha Television, and other private television channels for nearly 18 years. His areas of expertise include defence affairs and policies, international relations, and national security. He has covered various assignments abroad, including the visits of Prime Minister and other high level visits of Indian delegations.

Dr. Das is a frequent contributor to prominent national publications, where he authors columns, opinion editorials, and blogs on a diverse array of subjects, including media trends, advancements in media technology, geopolitical dynamics, defense strategies, and economic issues. He has been recognized with several awards, including the ‘News and Television Award’ (2014) for the best Hindi documentary series and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association Award for ‘Best Research Paper’ (2020).
