The article argued that science in the 20th century was quite popular among people around the world. It raised hope of progress for the common man, telling him or her that anything was possible, from space travel to a long and prosperous life. That dream has now come under a cloud, after science started getting associated in the popular perception as a preserve of big corporations and as a problem in itself as it has raised the specter of climate change, nuclear holocaust and mass unemployment (thanks to automation). Today, scientists believe in determinism, focusing more on the metaphysical than the freewill positivism of liberal humanism.

Research Fellow, IDSA. Dr Adil Rasheed’s article on Transhumanism, titled ‘Transhumanism: Politics of Hybridizing Humans with Robots," has been published in the Al-Arabiya TV channel website on May 27, 2018.

The article describes transhumanism as a recent techno-political movement that wants advanced technology to be given popular and government support for enhancing human abilities, which it deems “conservative or poorly informed” electorates and politicians often end up denying it.

Claiming to represent the scientific community as a whole, ‘Transhumanist’ advocates seek to pursue controversial technologies related to genetic editing, artificial intelligence, etc. which are often subjected to regulations as they are considered having dangerous implications for mankind by ethical or religious sensibilities.

Led by major tech giants such as Tesla, Google and Nokia, political activists of Transhumanism have started building their clout for their agenda in Washington and other global capitals.
