  • Accoding to reports, Maldives Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen has said that he hopes that the existing bilateral relations between Maldives and China would further strengthen in different areas in the years to come. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the ceremony held at Traders Hotel by the Chinese Embassy to celebrate 63rd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. 1

    In another development, President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has noted that “if there is a ground zero for observing and monitoring the impacts of global climate that would be Maldives”. The President made these remarks on September 26, 2012 at a function hosted by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, to launch the 2nd Climate Vulnerability Monitor. Bangladesh hosted this event as the current Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum. The first Climate Vulnerability Monitor was launched under the Maldives chairmanship of the Forum in 2010. 2

    In other developments, the Secretary General of SAARC Ahmed Saleem paid a courtesy call on Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen on September 27, 2012. 3
