  • The North Korean nuclear disablement programme suffered a setback with Pyongyang stating that it had stopped disabling its nuclear facilities. Pyongyang claims that the US has reneged on its commitments made under the Six-Party talks by not removing North Korea from its list of states sponsoring terrorism1. North Korea’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that disablement-related work was stopped on August 14.

Pyongyang has also threatened to restore facilities at its Yongbyon nuclear plant2. Recent reports quoting US officials indicated that the North Koreans were piecing together the Yongbyong facility3.
