  • South Korean President Park Geun-hye, on August 28, urged Japan to face up to the colonial history and resolve the grievances over the latter’s colonial rule over Korea in the past. She also insisted that the Seoul-Tokyo relations continue to remain tense primarily due to ‘regressive’ remarks and actions regarding the colonial past by some of the Japanese politicians.1

In another development, South Korea, on September 1, strongly denounced the Syrian government’s alleged use of chemical weapons on its own people. It also added that Seoul will continue cooperating with the international community in preventing and eliminating the use of such weapons.2
