  • According to reports, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal on September 1 told a meeting of the Arab League in Cairo that opposing military intervention in Syria encourages the Damascus regime to “pursue its crimes.” He has stated that, “Opposition to international action only encourages the regime to pursue its crimes, adding that, “It is time to ask the international community to assume its responsibilities and to take deterrent measures.” Earlier before the Arab League session, on the possibility of a US strike in Syria, he said that Saudi Arabia would back a US strike on Syria if the Syrian people did. He said, “We stand by the will of the Syrian people. They know best their interests, so whatever they accept, we accept, and whatever they reject, we reject.”1
