MoU signed between Maldivian and Turkish Police; Dr. Asim Ahmed appointed as the acting minister of Foreign Affairs

  • Reports noted that Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz made an official visit to Turkey from August 13 to 17, 2013 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Maldives and Turkey in relation to security. Under the MoU, Turkey will facilitate training and education opportunities for Maldivian police officers, and also provide the means necessary to strengthen police service. Turkey will provide in-service training to Maldivian police officers to ensure successful investigation of drug crimes, corruption, and serious organised crimes. The two countries have also agreed to share information and provide assistance in their efforts against transnational crimes.1

    Reports noted that President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appointed Minister of Education Dr Asim Ahmed, as the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the passing away of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla.2
