Rohani calls first meeting of his cabinet members; MRPL plans to lift four Iranian oil cargoes this month

  • Reports noted that Iranian President Hassan Rohani held first meeting with his cabinet members in Tehran on August 17, 2013. Rohani once again thanked the Iranian people for their vote to his government of “prudence and hope” and vowed that the government will make every effort to improve the people’s lives. He mentioned that the improvement of people’s economic problems is on top of his government’s agenda, adding that the economic officials of the government are scheduled to hold two meetings every week to discuss ways to resolve economic problems. 1

    In another development, according to reports, the Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), P P Upadhya has said on August 12 that the firm plans to lift four Iranian oil cargoes this month. "It (the cargo) was loaded at Kharg (island) on 8th and 9th of this month and is likely to reach Mangalore by the end of this week," P P Upadhya said. Late in May this year, Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qassemi and his Indian counterpart M. Veerappa Moily in a meeting in New Delhi explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating energy relations between the two countries. During the meeting, Qassemi and Moily underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation between Iran and India in the energy field. The Iranian and Indian oil ministers agreed that India will continue purchasing oil from Iran. The Iranian oil minister noted that Iran and India are willing to expand their mutual cooperation in the energy sector. 2
