  • The Chairman of Jatiya Party (JP) HM Ershad visited India from August 13-18, 2012 and met President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai. Ershad also visited Ajmer.1
    In another development, according to reports, on August 13, 2012, Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman left for a five-day visit to Saudi Arabia to attend the 4th Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation held on August 14-15, 2012 in Makkah. 2 During his address in the closing ceremony of the summit, President urged the OIC member states to persuade the Myanmar government with political and economic support to ensure dignified living of their Muslim-minority Rohingyas. 3
    In other developments, according to reports, Russia has agreed to provide as credit 85 percent of the estimated Tk 12,000-15,000 crore needed for setting up the first-ever nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. It will initially provide $500 million for conducting necessary studies and preparing the design for the 1,000 MW nuke plant. This was agreed at a two-day meeting between Bangladesh and Russia on August 8-9, 2012 in Moscow. 4
