  • According to reports, the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) has announced that a government in exile is set to be formed in late August following months of failed efforts. The coalition’s previous attempt to form a provisional government failed after Prime Minister Ghassan Hitto resigned in four months. SNC head Ahmad Jarba has said that the group needed clarifications before proceeding to the Geneva 2 peace talks, particularly the position of Russia which continues to support the Syrian government led by President Bashar al-Assad. The SNC has also said that peace talks must be held within a timeframe and "cannot last three years, for instance, while the regime continues to kill our people”. The rebels have also sought arms to fight government forces, even while a political solution is sought in Geneva. 1
