    According to reports, the hard-line faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has sent a demand note to Parliamentary Secretary (Environment and Forest) Abu Taher Bepari and the incident has created ripples in the administration. Police investigation into the incident is on and on preliminary investigation; police apprehended that the demand note is not a fake one. The letter was signed by hardcore militant Drishti Asom (Rajkhowa) and it came by post a few days back. It is suspected that the letter was posted in Goalpara district.1

    In another development, according to reports, the indefinite bandh on Nagaland sector of the National Highway 2 (formerly NH 39) particularly Kohima-Mao section since July 13, 2012 has severely affected the movement of Manipur-bound vehicles. The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) had called the bandh in protest against the authority’s alleged failure in recovering a stolen vehicle and arresting the vehicles lifters of June 21 incident. 2

    Reports noted that the Centre on July 11, 2012 announced extension of ceasefire pact with Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) for another six months. It has been mutually agreed with DHD Group in North Cachar Hills to further extend Suspension of Operations (SoO) for period of six months up to September 9, an official spokesman of the Home Ministry said. An agreement of Suspension of Operations (SoO) between the security forces and DHD has been in operation January 2003 and has been extended periodically. Tripartite talks on the demands of DHD are continuing. 3

    According to reports, three suspected cadres of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were gunned down on July 13, 2012. The incident took place in Salpara village in Assam's Goalpara district. An AK-56 rifle, a 9mm pistol, a Chinese grenade and over 100 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the possession of the killed militants. 4
    Reports noted that the 96- hour bandh called by Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) on Kohima-Khuzama sector of the National Highway 2 has been suspended following partial fulfillment of their demands. SAYO had imposed the bandh protesting the Manipur Government’s alleged failure to recover the stolen vehicle and in producing arrested accused vehicle lifters. The bandh created a fuel scarcity besides affecting supplies to Manipur since last week. 5
    In other developments, according to reports, East Garo Hills police has busted a hideout of GNLA militants forcing them to flee during an encounter in Resubelpara sub-division area on July 15, 2012. Acting on intelligence reports about the movement of heavily armed GNLA militants led by their area commander Laben alias Chenang, East Garo Hills police SWAT commandos conducted an overnight operation in Resubelpara area and by July 15 morning located the hideout inside Resu Song Megap. The militants, who were coming out of their hideout in the house of a sympathizer opened fire from authomatic rifles resulting in a brief encounter. 6
