    Reports noted that the foreign ministries of China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) are planning to hold strategic dialogue on June 19, 2013 in Beijing. During these talks Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui of China and First Vice Foreign Minister of DPRK Kim Kye Gwan will co-chair the talks. The two sides will exchange views on bilateral relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula, as well as international and regional issues of common concern.1
    According to reports, top Chinese political adviser Yu Zhengshend said on June 16 that, the Chinese mainland will continue its ‘correct policies’ to further consolidate peaceful cross-strait ties. Yu stated, “the new leadership will continue to follow the correct policies and dedicate itself to consolidating the political, economic, cultural and social foundation for the peaceful development of cross-strait ties”. 2
    Reports noted that the Chinese embassy on June 16, strongly condemned the attacks on six Chinese students in western France. It further demanded that the French authorities bring the offenders to justice. 3
    According to reports, in a telephonic conversation on June 15, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed bilateral ties and the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Xi Jinping said that the two sides are actively implementing the important consensus and agreements reached at the leaders’ summit in Moscow in March. 4
    Reports noted that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently established an office to deal with issues of cyber security. The spokeswoman Hua Chunying said, that the cyber affairs office is responsible for diplomatic activities regarding cyber affairs. 5
    According to reports, the Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn in Beijing on June 14. During the meeting Xi Jinping said that the development of bilateral relations offers a great opportunity as the two countries are at a crucial period of nation building and have a similar governing philosophy. 6
    Reports noted that Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang is scheduled to visit China from June 19-21, 2013. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that China hopes to enhance political mutual trust with the Vietnam during the President’s visit. Xi Jinping and Truong Tan Sang are expected to conclude talks on bilateral relations and regional issues. 7
    According to reports, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced that the Cuban First Vice-President Miguel Diaz-Canel will pay official visit to China from June 17-19. 8
    Reports noted that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will pay an official visit to China from June 18-21, 2013. 9
    In a significant development, the recently concluded summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and United States President Barack Obama is being regarded as ‘beginning of fruitful cooperation between the two countries’. 10 During the talks, Xi asserted his commitment towards maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and also working towards denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. 11 In addition to this the two sides also agreed to enhance their cooperation on issues related to climate change. 12
    Reports noted that the Chinese and Russian forces started a 10 day joint training exercise in Beijing on June 11. This is being called “Cooperation 2013” and the two sides aim to learn from each other and also improve and enhance their counter-terror skills and tactics. 13
    After the recently concluded visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Mexico, the two sides are now working towards concluding joint agreements on tourism. 14
    In other developments, reports noted that Chinese President Li Yuanchao met with his Nepalese counterpart Parmananda Jha on June 8. During interaction, Li said that China and Nepal have developed a healthy and stable relationship since they first established diplomatic ties. 15
    According to reports, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the recently concluded trip of Xi Jinping (May 31- June 6, 2013) to Latin American countries i.e. Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico and Costa Rica, has yielded fruitful results. 16

    Reports noted that China successfully launched its spacecraft Shenzhou 10. The spacecraft consisted of three astronauts, two males and one female. This is a 15 day mission where Shenzhou 10 will dock with Tiangong 1 which is the Chinese trial space lab. They are expected to conduct experiments and test the functioning of the module. 17
