  • According to reports, the United States has decided to exempt seven countries including India, from Iranian oil sanctions, owing to their significant reduction in crude oil purchases from Iran. The six other countries are Malaysia, Republic of Korea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Taiwan. The US has said the sanctions aim to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. 1 China, Iran’s biggest oil importer was not on the waiver list, and has slammed the US for the decision. 2
