    (MAY 28-JUNE 3)

Reports noted that UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan has warned Lebanese leaders of instability should Syria slide into a civil war. Annan has also warned of the negative consequences of the failure of UN efforts to end the 15-month old crisis in Syria. Lebanon has seen several incidents of sectarian and political tensions in the northern regions and in Beirut that have been directly linked to the crisis in Syria. Annan’s six-point peace plan, which includes a cease-fire that should have taken effect on April 12, has not been implemented yet by the Syrian government. Activists say more than 13,000 people have been killed in Syria during the past year. 1
