  • According to reports, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) have agreed to strengthen joint patrol and enhance coordination between them to reduce trans-border crimes along the Sylhet-Assam border. Officials of the BGB and BSF reached the agreement at a deputy director general-level meeting at the Supreme Community Centre near Sheola border in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet on May 29, 2013.1

    In another development, according to reports, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni left for Brussels on May 27, 2013 to lobby top EU officials to continue with the generalised system of preferences for Bangladesh. She met EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht on May 28, 2013. During her meeting with the trade commissioner, she informed that Bangladesh would take determined action to improve health and occupational safety standards in garment factories to retain its preferential trade scheme with the European Union. 2
