Reports noted that the US has agreed to supply GBU-28 bombs, known as “bunker-buster” to South Korea. The laser guided missiles which were used during the Gulf war, 1990-91, to destroy the underground facilities in Iraq would also enable South Korea to hit and destroy North Korea’s underground storing missile and aircrafts facilities. The delivery of the missile is scheduled between 2010 and 2014.South Korea has also planned to purchase high-tech bombs such as JDAMs, JASSMs and GBU-24s. The GBU-24s has a capability to perform better at low altitudes and under poor visibility condition while the JDAMs with its global positioning systems would be effective against North Korean artillery. JASSMs are precision guided missiles which can hit at the desired locations1.
